Dr. Kristin Martin Contributes to Groundbreaking National Consensus on Pain Management for Pregnant Patients with Opioid-Use Disorder

We’re proud to announce that River Valley Medical Wellness CEO Dr. Kristin Martin, a recognized leader in addiction medicine and maternal health, has co-authored an editorial published in the prestigious journal Anesthesia & Analgesia. Her inclusion in this national collaboration reflects her deep clinical expertise and her ongoing commitment to improving outcomes for patients affected by opioid-use disorder (OUD).

The editorial introduces a new multi-society consensus statement focused on pain management for pregnant and postpartum patients with OUD, an area where Dr. Martin’s voice and experience are making a meaningful impact.

The consensus statement tackles over 40 clinical questions and offers evidence-based recommendations and expert guidance for safely managing pain in a highly stigmatized and medically complex population. The publication calls for individualized care, stigma reduction, and improved access to addiction medicine resources - especially in rural communities like ours.

Dr. Martin’s expertise helped shape this important conversation, particularly in advocating for patient-centered pain plans, safer medication management, and integrated care approaches that support long-term recovery and maternal health.

This publication is not only a testament to Dr. Martin’s national leadership, it’s also a meaningful step toward better outcomes for Arkansas mothers and babies who have been impacted by addiction.
