Expanding Access to Maternal Health Services in Rural Arkansas

At River Valley Medical Wellness, we believe that every woman deserves access to compassionate, high-quality care, no matter where she lives. Thanks to funding from the Arkansas Department of Human Services, we’re proud to share a major milestone in the expansion of our maternal health services.

Recently, all of our medical providers completed hands-on training in obstetric ultrasound through Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute, the most comprehensive, accredited resource for diagnostic ultrasound training and CME.

This training means each of our medical providers are now equipped to perform limited obstetric ultrasounds - in Hot Springs, Russellville, and all of our ARMOR mobile health clinic service sites - bringing prenatal care directly to women who need it most.

Why does this matter?

For many women, especially those living in rural Arkansas, early access to pregnancy care can be hard to come by. With this expansion of women’s health services, we can now confirm pregnancies, screen for potential concerns, and refer women to OB/GYN specialists when needed. It’s one more way we’re working to close gaps in care and create healthier beginnings for moms and babies.

These Ultrasound services are just one part of our broader approach to maternal health. Through our Maternal Health Grant from the Arkansas Department of Human Services, we provide:

• Integrated care that addresses physical health, mental health, and substance use

• Prenatal care and health screenings, including infectious disease testing

• Pregnancy care kits with vitamins, support resources, and education

• Peer recovery support to help pregnant women connect with ongoing services

• Education on naloxone, recovery strategies, and preventing setbacks

This kind of whole-person care supports women not just during pregnancy, but also before and after - helping them stay healthy, supported, and empowered on every step of their journey.
